School Profile
The East Orange Community Charter School is a public charter school located on four sites in East Orange, New Jersey.  We endeavor to provide a comprehensive, quality educational experience for our students.
 
The following points makeup the uniqueness of the EOCCS’ school environment:
  • Classes begin at 8:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m., Monday-Friday;
  • EOCCS promotes innovative instruction in a caring and safe environment with spacious classrooms that are conducive to our students achieving academic excellence;
  • We encourage our students to exceed the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards (NJCCCS) by providing hands-on, active learning experiences;
  • EOCCS has one NJ Certified Teacher and at least one Teacher Assistant in every classroom (13:1 student/teacher ratio);
  • In accordance with the No Child Left Behind  established laws, a highly qualified staff is in place to provide an intensive educational experience to each student.
  • Reading and Math enrichment programs are available to the students.
  • EOCCS consistently meets the AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) standards;
  • The school promotes school uniform and dress code policies;
  • Computers are provided in each classroom and also a Computer Lab;
  • A school library available to all students.
  • We encourage strong Parent/Community involvement.
  • Scouting Programs for both Boys and Girls
  • EOCCS promotes creativity and innovativeness through our Performing Arts Programs and other school-sponsored activities.
  • Parent /Guardian workshops and other  Parent/Guardian interests are     available.
  • A six week Summer Day Camp
  • A certified School Nurse on staff and at least two nurses on duty that are CPR and Epipen certified

What Is A Charter School?

A Charter School is a "public" school that must adhere to the regulations mandated by the New Jersey Department of Education.

A Charter School:

  • Provides an improved learning environment
  • Encourages the use of different and innovative learning methods
  • Is accountable and monitored by the NJ DOE
  • Has smaller-class sizes, longer school days and longer school year
  • Has more parent involvement and community partnerships
  • Is governed by a BOARD OF TRUSTEES
